Discover the gentle side of the wilderness with us : On this paddling tour, you’ll glide through the tranquil rivers and lakes of North Karelia and experience nature from the water—quiet, relaxing, and intense.

What to expect:

  • A diverse river landscape: The Mukajoki winds its way through quiet forests with a gentle current.

  • Peaceful Lake Paddling: After the river, our route leads into a tranquil lake system—perfect for a leisurely glide.

  • Traces of the Wilderness: With a little luck, we’ll spot signs of beavers, which build their dams and lodges here on the riverbanks.

  • Picnic on the Sandy Beach: Amid this peaceful landscape, we’ll take a break at a small natural beach and enjoy a delicious lunch in the quiet of the wilderness.

  • Paddling Back Home: Our tour ends right on the shore at Eräkeskus—a special moment, completely free of cars and hustle and bustle.

  • Great for beginners: The perfect tour for anyone who’s in a canoe for the first time or just wants to paddle at a leisurely pace and enjoy nature.

Your adventure begins

After a short, relaxing transfer, we’ll take you to the Kivikoronvirta Peninsula, where we ’ll launch our canoes or kayaks into the calm Mukajoki River. For the first six kilometers, we’ll glide through picturesque scenery with a gentle current. There are often clear signs of beavers here—and with a little luck, we might even spot one of these shy builders at work.

Through Serene Aquatic Worlds

After the estuary, where the Mukajoki flows into the As we pass Lieksanjoki, the paddling experience changes: the river widens, and the current subsides—almost like being on a lake. We paddle leisurely upstream for a while and reach a small sandy beach —an idyllic spot for a long break. On the bank, we enjoy a hearty picnic lunch and the peaceful atmosphere.

Homecoming Across the Water

Refreshed, we continue along the gently flowing river through a network of waterways until we reach the vast Lake Nurmijärvi. We cover the last few kilometers on open water before landing right on the shore at Eräkeskus. With calm hearts, tired arms, and many wonderful memories, our relaxing water adventure comes to an end.
