This exciting day hike takes you to the famous Ruunaa region, known for its impressive rapids, picturesque forests, and the adventurous river crossing by rowboat.

Your adventure begins

After a hearty breakfast at the lodge, we’ll load our luggage and drive about 30 minutes to the starting point in the Ruunaa region. Here, we dive right into the adventure: via the Karhunpolku trail, we reach the famous Koskikierros (rapids) loop trail. Soon we’ll reach a small peninsula near the Niskalahti Laavu, where you can take your first break to hydrate and snap some photos—the perfect opportunity to capture your first impressions.

On the Trail of the Rapids

The trail leads us to the Siikakoski rapids, where we’ll prepare our lunch over an open fire. By the way, Finnish grilled sausages taste best here with traditional Finnish mustard! Of course, our four-legged companion won’t go hungry either. After this refreshing break, we continue our hike across an exciting suspension bridge toward Murroojärvi. A real highlight is crossing Murroojärvi in a rowboat —an impressive experience on the water! The final stretch back to the car takes us along various boardwalks, through small marshy areas, and, of course, through the wonderful forest, where reindeer lichen dominates the landscape.

  • Duration: About 5–6 hours (including transportation and lunch).
  • Distance: approx. 16 km.
  • Difficulty: Easy to moderate hike with elements of adventure (suspension bridge, rowboat).
  • Highlights: Ruunaa Rapids, suspension bridge, rowing across Lake Murroojärvi, reindeer lichen forests, traditional lunch by the campfire.
  • Meeting point: Eräkeskus, at the lodge.
  • Guide: German, English, Finnish speaking guides.
  • Group size: Experience the tour as an exclusive private tour or in small, personal groups for an intensive experience.

Our prices are per person and include all services mentioned.

  • Price per person: 105 €
  • Children up to age 14: 70 €
  • Minimum number of participants: 2
  • Individual participants are welcome to join the tour with a 50% exclusivity surcharge.

  • All Transfers: Convenient round-trip transportation from/to Eräkeskus to the start and end points of the hike.
  • Authentic Wilderness Lunch: A freshly prepared, delicious lunch (grilled sausages with Finnish mustard and side dishes) right by the open fire at the rapids.
  • Unforgettable moments and plenty of fresh air!

What to Bring: For the best hiking experience, we recommend bringing the following:

  • Good, well-broken-in hiking boots: Absolutely essential for a secure grip and comfort on nature trails and boardwalks.
  • Weather-appropriate clothing (layering): Layers are ideal for adapting to changing temperatures.
  • Small daypack: For personal items and a water bottle.
  • Optional: camera, binoculars, insect repellent (depending on the season).

Physical Requirements: This hike is suitable for anyone with a normal level of basic fitness who enjoys spending time outdoors. You should be able to hike about 16 km over mostly flat terrain and not be afraid of suspension bridges or a rowboat ride. No special prior experience is required.

  • Cancellations must be made in writing (by e-mail to office@eraekeskus.com). In the case of declarations received on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, the next working day shall be decisive.
  • Cancellation up to 7 days before the start of the tour is free of charge.
  • If you cancel 7 days or less before the date of the event, we will charge a cancellation fee of 100% of the booking price.

  • We recommend that you take out cancellation insurance.
